Steeplechases are among the equestrian events that are widespread in many countries.
Steeplechase, or steeplechase, is held on a specially equipped track up to 8 km long, which runs through areas with small differences in altitude and different soil (green or sandy track, plowed field).
At a distance of up to 30 different obstacles are installed, the height of which reaches 150 cm, and the width-6 m.
Obstacles, as a rule, are made of live, but very dense bushes, although they may consist of wooden beams, logs, in the form of earthen ramparts, dry and filled with water channels, etc.in steeplechases, riders on older horses (at least 5 years old) participate.
The most difficult routes are considered to be the distances of the Great Liverpool steeplechase in England and the Great Pardubice in the Czech Republic. Soviet athletes for many years successfully performed in the prize draw in Pardubice and more than once became winners of the main prize of the competition.
Currently, this complex type of equestrian sport in our country is again beginning to spread, and our riders are a worthy competitor to athletes from other countries.
