What is Vaulting
Vaulting (FR. voltiger – to flutter).
Vaulting is a gymnastic exercise performed by an athlete on a horse moving in a circle with a diameter of 12-15 m. (on a cord) at a trot or gallop. If there is a high barrier enclosing the circle, you can do without the cord.
For vaulting, a special saddle or Gurtu is used, the horse’s head is fixed with interchanges.
This type of equestrian sport has both independent significance and is a good training school for other types of equestrian sports, especially for triathlon or steeplechase.
Voltigieren competitions in vaulting consists of mandatory and optional programs of various complexity.
In Russia, this sport is not well developed and our athletes do not participate in international competitions.

In vaulting, the most common environment, the straddle cut, guard, stand fan, dismounts. They also perform acrobatic exercises and pyramids.
The competition includes mandatory and free exercises that make up a complete combination. Depending on the difficulty, they are rated from 1 to 4 points. The rules provide a scale of penalties for various errors. The overall rating of each participant’s performance for the mandatory exercises is from 5 to 10 points, for the free program from 5 to 10 points.
