Four types of saddles are most widely used in our country:

Combat and Cossack saddles
For a long time they were used in the cavalry. They were well adapted for multi-day marches on any roads and in any weather conditions, creating convenience for the rider, dressed in military uniforms.
It was also possible to attach packs with uniforms to the saddles.
The weight of a drill saddle with a pack reached about 40 kilograms. There are also special pack saddles, but they are not used for riding. Currently, military and Cossack saddles are used in expeditions, when grazing, for filming movies.
They should make it as easy as possible for the horse to move at all paces and when jumping. Sports saddles are divided into saddles for show jumping, triathlon, steeplechase, for high school riding, voltizhirovki (they perform special gymnastic exercises) and for training riding (training saddles). Training saddles are simpler in design and are usually made from cheap materials.
A sports saddle consists of a ribbon, two wings, two wing covers, a seat, two pillows, two girths, four or six girths, two putlisches, two stirrups, two schnellers and a sweater.
Lenchik is made of metal. It is the solid base of the entire saddle and consists of two benches fastened with metal arcs. These arcs are called the front and back bow. The length of the ribbon depends on the type of equestrian sport.
The wings and undercarriages are made of leather. They serve to protect the rider’s feet from being touched with girths, buckles, and buckles, and cover the sweats. In racing saddles, the wings are more set forward, since during races the rider stands in the stirrups, putting his feet forward. In saddles for high school riding, the wings are lowered vertically down.
The seat is made of leather. It allows the rider to take a correct and comfortable position on the horse’s back.
Pillows are made of dense fabric and stuffed with wool. Place them under the seat; they are adjacent to the horse’s body on both sides of its spine, helping to avoid impact on it.
Potnik is made of thick felt. It softens the pressure of the saddle and pillows on the horse’s body, prevents the formation of scuffs, absorbs sweat while the horse is working. A rectangular piece of white linen cloth 70 x 80 cm in size is placed under the sweating cloth.the sweating Cloth protects the horse’s skin from the soiled sweating cloth. It is not part of the saddle.
Girths are made of braid. Modern sports saddles often have two girths, which with the help of buckles and straps tightly cover the bottom and sides of the horse’s body, preventing the saddle from sliding sideways and moving along the back.
The stirrup is made from metal and hung on a leather strap with buckle called pallidum. Putlishche is threaded into the Schneller – a special metal device with a lock. The length of the track can be changed by adjusting it to the length of the rider’s legs. Stirrups serve as additional support for the rider.
Sometimes racing saddles are mistakenly classified as sports saddles – the most lightweight, designed for racing at racetracks. But racetrack racing is not a classic type of equestrian sport, and therefore racehorses (working and prize) should be classified as a special type.
Sports (except voltizhirovochnogo) and racing saddles weigh much less than combat and Cossack: from 0.5 to 9 kg.
