The cord is an auxiliary tool for working with horses in the hands, it is a cord about 7 meters long, which is held in the left hand, driving the horse along the cord to the left, and driving to the right – in the right hand. Cord attached to the ring snaffle.
The other end of the cord and the remaining 2-3 meters of cord when moving in a circle are in the other hand of the cord.
In this case, you need to pay attention to the part that is rolled up in several circles would not hang low and Cordova would not get entangled in it. The cord must be held in the hand so that it can be lengthened or shortened at any time.
The leading hand is at the height of the horse’s mouth and regulates the pull of the cord. To ride a cord with the hand down and the cord hanging down is the movement of the horse, but not the work on the cord.
Work on the cord is the very first work with young horses, it is practiced for training the horse to walk under the saddle, when jumping, correcting bad-riding horses and, above all, with horses with weak backs. Work on the cord is also used if the rider has not yet learned to enter into the rhythm of the horse’s movement and with horses that have lost their pace and sweep, as well as with those who should be spared after a disease. On the cord, the horse works correctly when it moves with calm, sweeping gaits.
When working on the cord, an important role is played by the attachment of auxiliary reins, uniform, skillful use of the cord, whip and voice. Both of these latter effects replace the rider’s lumbosacral region and schenkel, while rein effects are more or less actively transmitted through the cord and passively through the corresponding rein attachment. Attaching the reins, as well as using the voice and whip, requires skill and focused attention. While working, you often have to correct the attachment of the cord. Driving a horse on a cord is more difficult than many people think. Riders who have not learned to get into the rhythm of the horse’s movement will never replace the missing skill with work on the cord. With the help of a cord, the horse can be temporarily corrected, but if the rider is not sitting correctly in the saddle, he will quickly spoil it again. Therefore, it is better to correct your horse by learning to enter into the rhythm of its movement.
