Driving in equestrian sports
More and more wide development in the countries of Europe and Central America gets one more classical types of equestrian sports driving.
In this form, not riding athletes compete, but teams of horses: Quad, pair and single. Driving competitions include three types, largely repeating the competition of riding triathletes.
On the first day, on a standard fenced area with a size of 40x100m with a flat grass surface, the team demonstrates the well-trained horses, synchronicity of their movements, correct and efficient gaits, manageability when performing various shapes: changing the direction of movement, volts, stops, etc.
The matching of the pair and the coherence of its movements are also evaluated. A separate assessment is made of the appearance of the horses and equipment, as well as the crew.
The second day, as in the triathlon, is the most difficult – it determines the outcome of all competitions. At a distance of up to 28 km, special sections are arranged, often tied to difficult terrain, which are equipped with fences and restrictions that seriously hinder the passage of the route. Within these sections, the time of their passage is recorded, for exceeding which participants receive penalty points.
On the third day, the site again hosts competitions for high-speed passage of several gates located in a complex route that provides for quite sharp turns. The width of the gate is slightly more than the regulated width of the carriage track, and their limiters easily fall when touched. For violation of the integrity of the gate receive penalty points. The sum of points scored in three types determines the participants ‘ places.
This type of equestrian sport is very beautiful and attracts a large number of spectators. There are good conditions for its development in our country. The potential of domestic horse breeds allows you to prepare teams for high-class driving. Especially promising in this regard are pairs and fours consisting of horses of the Oryol trotting breed.
